COVID-19 Director’s Update 29 May, 2020

Dear Science Space Friends,

I would like to extend the appreciation of the Science Space team to you all. Since we had to close our doors over ten weeks ago, I know many of you have enjoyed and welcomed our online efforts. We hope it kept the families exploring and learning while we have all been staying safe at home through these unprecedented times.

Some of you may have seen the positive announcement by the NSW Government regarding the lifting of restrictions on museums and galleries from 1st June.

Though exciting news, this restriction will only be available to a maximum of 20 people within a space (including staff) and therefore, sadly, this would make it not feasible to operate. Science Space shall be looking forward to reaching step 3 of the Australian Governments framework when we can finally welcome up to 100 guests, at a date yet to be announced.

The Science Space team are very keen to welcome all our loyal customers back as soon as possible but obviously our priority is for the safety of our staff and community. In line with Government guidelines and working with the University of Wollongong COVID Crisis Team, over the next two weeks we shall be implementing various new procedures and controls to create our COVID Safe Science Space. Some of these new measures will include:

·         Online booking for all guests including members.

·         Safe social distancing queueing area and positions at reception/shop.

·         Social distancing signage and prompts from staff.

·         Increased hand sanitisation stations.

·         Increased cleaning prior to opening and through the day.

·         Kiosk closed but picnics welcome.

We would also ask that all guests follow the current Government guidelines and maintain good hygiene, sanitise regularly, avoid visiting if feeling unwell, notify staff if you feel unwell while visiting or have recently travelled from overseas.

We are very grateful for your loyalty and I can confirm all memberships shall be extended for the entire period between closure and reopening. I am sure you will all provide your ongoing support with these adjustments as we all work through this next phase to ensure we continue to protect our families, the Science Space team and our community.

We shall ensure our loyal members will be the first to hear of our reopening and provide further detail around the above adjustments in the coming weeks.

Kind regards
Stuart Creal
