The Makerspace at UOW Science Space is one of four Maker Spaces operated by the University. Our creative space provide ‘makers’ from all corners of the community, both new and experienced, with access to tools, equipment and training. We foster an inclusive, vibrant, supportive and exploratory environments for all in the community who are interested in creating, repairing inventing, tinkering or learning-by-doing.
From rockets to spinning tops, computer game controllers to robots, LEGO Club is a must for all aspiring LEGO masters aged 7-12! Join us each Tuesday after school to learn STEM skills, take part in epic engineering design challenges, make new friends and have lots of fun. In exciting news, this term we will also be designing individual LEGO creations to enter into the upcoming Annual Illawarra Brick Show – more info soon!
In addition, the Science Shop will also be open all day and offers a wide range of science kits and teaching resources to continue the STEM learning at home.
Stuck in lockdown? Never fear! Science Space has got you covered. We have a whole bunch of fun activities planned to keep your minds active – the best part? It’s all using items you’ve already got at home or can pick up during your regular shop.
Our STEM Zone is a purpose-built workshop created with the support of South32 Illawarra Metallurgical Coal to deliver bespoke, hands-on small group STEM learning to schools. The workshop is fully equipped with classroom sets of the latest technologies as well as engineering and building materials to enable in-depth STEM learning and augmenting experiences in our shows and on the exhibition floor.
Whether you are a member of the public or a school group, a must-do part of visiting Science Space is watching a LIVE science show. Our amazing team of science Ambassadors delivers a suite of engaging and interactive live science shows covering a range of different scientific topics. We are regularly reviewing and updating our suite of shows, and often run special themed shows for school holiday periods.
Science Space in Wollongong is proud to regularly release new holiday features and innovative school STEM programs and boasts one of the most digitally advanced Planetarium’s in Australia.
