Dive into a water world of science fun at UOW Science Space. With a packed program of shows, hands-on workshops and activities, there’s so much to explore, see and do for all ages these school holidays!

Autumn Holidays Show Schedule

  • Our shows are general audience shows and are suitable for all ages. Shows are approximately 20min in duration.
  • The Combined Pass offers discounted general entry plus 1 planetarium ticket and 1 science show ticket per person.  Shows can only be selected on arrival. Some shows may have limited availability at peak busy times so early arrival is advised if you wish to see specific shows.
  • Show tickets are required for all visitors aged 2+ years. All children must be accompanied by an adult in our planetarium and science theatre

Discover the art of transforming your trash into treasure! Join us in this interactive and engaging experience as we unveil the fascinating world of upcycling common garbage to explore science in a whole new light.

Bubbleology

Our most popular show for junior scientists! Find out what bubbles are made of, learn why bubbles are so stretchy and lazy, and see how exciting bubbles can be.

Up In Flames

Learn about the science behind fire as we explore the powerful combination of heat, oxygen, and fuel. Witness some spectacular demonstrations of how we can create, change, and put out fires. Do not try this at home!

 

 

PLANETARIUM SHOW DESCRIPTIONS:

Water in the Solar System

Journey across planets and moons in the ultimate search for water! Dive into the cosmic depths of our Solar System and discover why water is so important for survival here on Earth and the exciting possibilities it holds for future space exploration.

Night Sky Live

Calling all star gazers! Discover what’s in the sky tonight as we explore stars and constellations in this presenter-led show. Explore about the myths and legends behind your favourite constellations and learn about the impact of light pollution, satellites and space junk! Suitable for all ages. 

Sea Monsters

Dive into the Late Cretaceous and journey through the perilous waters on an ancient inland sea. Meet long-necked plesiosaurs, giant turtles, enormous fish, fierce sharks and the most dangerous sea monster of all, the mosasaur! Through a thrilling blend of paleontological discoveries and scientific detective work, join fossil hunters on a quest to unravel the mysteries of this prehistoric ocean world.

 

Free School Holiday Fun!

POP-UP ACTIVITIES (free, daily)

‘Coral Cove’ Play Space

Dress up as a deep sea diver, meet a great white shark, and build ocean habitats for a variety of sea creatures in our pop-up sensory place space these holidays – ‘Coral Cove’.

 

Shipyard Construction Zone

Enter our shipyard to build the ultimate boat or ship using Constructa pieces. Would your vessel survive on the open sea?

 

 

 

Deep- Sea Duplo

Budding marine explorers can construct underwater worlds filled with sea creatures, colourful coral, divers and more!

 

 

3D Coral Reef

Sea creatures playfully react to your every step as you interact with our stunning coral reef digital floor projection.

 

 

Micro-Eye Microscope

Investigate real aquatic specimens including starfish, shells and crabs up close under a microscope!

 

 

 

Green Screen Portraits (11am-2pm)

Dress up as a giant fish, starfish, prawn or octopus and have your free family portrait taken with a virtual deep sea background!

 

 

 

OCEAN LAB (free, activities may vary each day, no bookings required)

Our party room will be transformed into the ultimate deep-sea adventure these holidays! Ocean Lab will be open from 11am-2pm and activities on offer may vary each day.

Diver Dave Ocean Adventures

Wed 17th April only

10am-4pm

Join scuba diver and marine educator Diver Dave to explore and touch some amazing sea creatures! Learn about what they eat, where they live and much more in this interactive, hands-on experience.

 

The Wildlife Movement

Thurs 18th, Fri 19th & Tues 23rd April only

Got questions about ocean conservation and sustainability? Uncover the mysteries of starfish, crabs and sea slugs with Marine biologist and shark expert Nathan from The Wildlife Movement! Discover what lurks in a rockpool and learn why it is so important to help protect and conserve our oceans for years to come.

Marine Specimens

Discover an incredible array of preserved marine specimens, coral and skulls on loan from the UOW Biology department’s research collection.

 

 

Magnetic Fishing

Reel in the fun at our magnetic fishing station! How many sea creatures can you catch?

 

 

 

 

Fossil Dig

What lies beneath the sand in our fossil dig? Discover fossils, shells, treasure and even a prehistoric sea monster!

 

 

 

Ocean Plastics 

Can you rescue the sea creatures from the ocean plastics? How can we better protect our oceans for a brighter, cleaner future?

BOOK STEM CAMPS & CURIOSITY DAYS – LIMITED PLACES!

STEM DAY CAMPS FOR AGES 7-12

Dive into a world of creativity and innovation in our ocean-themed LEGO Film Making or Game Designers STEM camps for older kids aged 7-12 (Year 2-6 at school). Explore classic film making techniques as you make your own LEGO stop motion film or design and animate a real video game! Each child will receive a certificate of participation and a $5 gift voucher for the Science Shop!

DROP-IN INDUSTRY OCEAN SCIENCE SESSION – ALL AGES 

Step into the captivating world of industry innovation and exploration this school holiday at Science Space! In collaboration with our industry partner, we’re thrilled to present an array of dynamic activities designed to ignite curiosity and inspire the entire family.

Embark on an interactive journey where hands-on design and construction merge seamlessly with engaging STEM activities and immersive VR experiences. Whether you’re crafting, or diving into the virtual realm, each activity promises an enriching encounter with the forefront of this cutting-edge industry.

Sessions will be conducted throughout the day, offering a flexible schedule to accommodate all eager participants. To ensure your spot in these activities, simply book your free session upon arrival at UOW Science Space. With limited places don’t miss this exclusive opportunity to delve into the dynamic world of industry alongside your loved ones as you join us for an unforgettable holiday experience!

CURIOSITY DAYS FOR AGES 5-12

Join us these school holidays for an all new, action-packed program of non-stop science fun for kids in Yr K-6! Your child will get a taste of everything UOW Science Space has to offer – think vacation care but with an educational twist. Compete in epic engineering challenges in our STEM Zone, create and design in our Makerspace, travel through the universe in our planetarium, witness some incredible experiments in our science theatre and explore the pop-up ocean activities in our hands-on exhibitions.  Each child will also receive a certificate of participation and a $5 gift voucher for the Science Shop!
